Sticks & String

A podcast by an Australian bloke who knits.

Midweek update – 24 January

G’day all.

The new website is almost finished, I’m just doing the final testing, so expect it to be live any day soon. We’re getting geared up for knitting at the Opera next Saturday – if you’re around Sydney why not come along – the Domain from mid-afternoon onwards. Now, if only the weather holds out, we’ve gone from really hot to wet again. I got given the outside of a sheep on last Saturday, Kate from the knitting guild was given 12 bags of fleece and she kindly passed one on, so I now have enough fibre to spin for (at my current rate of progress) a year or two.

During the week I’ve also done a guest spot on Quirky Nomads, a wonderful podcast from Canada, have a listen if you like and try some of Sage’s other shows they’re terrific.

Remember, the show’s back  on the first Saturday in February, until then, keep knitting.

Midweek update – 17 January

One of my friends (and work colleague) has a new blog up detailing his upcoming bike ride across the USA. He starts this weekend (I think – his plans are quite complicated) so if any of you in the US happen to see an Aussie science teacher / veterinarian cycling past (there’s a map of his progress on his blog) then make sure to give him a wave. He doesn’t knit, but he can sew (part of the job – being a vet, not science teaching).

Today I’m off meet the people from Braeside Alpacas outside Bathurst to do some interviews for the new series, they raise sheep and alpacas specially for spinners.

The new website (here for a preview) is nearly ready, I’m just putting the finishing touches on it before the big job of moving all the content from here to the new one. It’s on track to be running before I’m back at work. Series 2 is still on track to begin 3 February (with a special report on knitting at the opera).

Midweek update – 10 January

G’day all.

I thought I’d better keep you up to date with what’s happening with the show. Series 1 is over, Series 2 starts on Saturday 3 Feb and already I’ve got some wonderful things done for the series. I’m looking forward to getting everything happening.

The new website is coming along, the first bits are almost finished (check it out here). I’m expecting it to go live in the next 2 weeks. If you are getting to these pages via www.sticksandstring.com.au then you’ll end up on the new site automatically when it goes live. As you can see from the picture I’m receiving expert help in getting the new software written. The Torino jumper is coming along, it’s finally sunny enough to get some outdoor knitting done.

Tiger helping (not a lot). Do you think that hiding the start button is the equivalent of sitting on the knitting pattern?

I’m working through the huge email backlog, so if you’re waiting on a reply, it shouldn’t be too far away.
